  The vortices play a dominant role in the fluid dynamics. Exploration of the vortex dynamics and its modeling are of a high importance for both fundamental and applied sciences. Understanding of the vortex dynamics is a key to solve the multiscale problem of the turbulence, to predict unsteady loadings on engineering devices, to forecast the weather, etc. The scope of the next 8th International Conference on Vortex Flows Mechanics is to provide a platform for scientists to present and discuss recent developments in the field of vortex physics, vortex modelling and applications. The 2018 8th International Conference on Vortex Flows Mechanics (ICVFM 2018) will be held in Xi'an, China from October 16th to 18th, 2018. This is the eighth conference in the series of the successful meetings commenced in Kobe in 1999 and continued in Istanbul (2001), Yokohama (2005), Daejeon (2008), San Leucio (2010), Nagoya (2014) and Rostock (2016).
