  On 30 September - 6 October, 2002, Dubna hosted the V International Congress on Mathematical Modelling (V ICMM) organized by the Laboratory of Information Technologies of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (LIT/JINR), Dubna, Institute for Mathematical Modelling, RAS and the Scientific Council of Mathematical Modelling of the Russian Academy of Sciences headed by academician A.A.Samarsky. The purpose of the congress was to discuss a wide spectrum of problems of mathematical modelling in techniques, physics, biology, chemistry, ecology, economics and sociology. Particular attention was focussed on the actual problems of computer simulation with high-performance computing systems and software developments.
