In the context of the L’Aquila Food Security Initiative, G8/G20 governments committed to taking necessary measures to improve world food security, including measures related to agricultural research and education. As part of this commitment, the Government of the Russian Federation has established a Eurasian Center for Food Security (ECFS) as a center of excellence for agricultural expertise, catalyzing agricultural development in the Eurasia region. One of the key objectives for the ECFS short- and medium-term agenda is the development of a dynamic community of practice of specialists and practitioners. ECFS is organizing the Eurasian Food Security and Nutrition Network Conference and Soil Partnership meeting in Moscow from November 18 to November 20, 2013. The workshop will provide a forum for initiating and operationalizing a food security and nutrition network for the region and establishing partnerships with international policy and research institutions. The meeting will be structured as follows: (i) design and initiation of the Eurasian food security and nutrition network (November 18); (ii) identification of key educational needs that will be addressed through the ECFS distance learning programs (November 19); and (iii) establishment of the Eurasian node of the Global Soil Partnership (November 20).
