The framework theme of the conference will be “Political Activism in and through Public History”. The question of how we should research and teach history and create public history offers in the current politically charged climate in which history is selectively and uncritically used to support various political agendas has been a relevant topic for some time. At this conference we want to discuss to what extent public historians can and should engage in political activism and public debates on history politics and contested histories. How can we find the right balance between keeping public history open, collaborative, inclusive and community-oriented, while also striving to conduct scientifically rigorous research, keep our professional integrity and support critical thinking? Venue: Volkskundemuseum Wien Supported by: PHW Friends’ Association (Basel, CH) Faculty for Historical and Cultural Studies of University of Vienna School of Educaction FHNW, Basel, Switzerland
