The symposium takes place in Český Krumlov (south Bohemia, Czech Republic), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and former residence of the aristocrat Schwarzenberg family who declared the famous Boubínský virgin forest a protected site in 1858. Two days of presentations are followed by excursions to the nearby Boubínský and Žofínský virgin forests, the best-preserved old-growth forests in the Czech Republic. The symposium is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic (DKRVO 2015/08, National Museum, 00023272). Assistance of the Šumava National Park Authority and Blanský les Protected Landscape Area Authority is warmly acknowledged.
