For all practical purposes, the modern foundation of anticipation research goes back to Robert Rosen (1985) and Mihai Nadin (1988). As interest in the study of anticipatory systems deepens and broadens, the community of researchers (in biology and neurosciences, cognitive and computer science, as well as the behavioral and social disciplines) is rediscovering earlier work by scholars who, in various parts of the world, have been similarly concerned with problems of future and its modeling, and particularly with the leading role it plays for living and cognitive systems.
