Extreme energetic atmospheric events such as the 1908 Tunguska explosion (energetics of the order of 4x10^24 erg = 20 megatons TNT equivalent, i.e., 1000 times the energy of the Hiroshima atomic explosion) and the widely known 2013 Chelyabinsk superbolide explosion (energetics around 400 kilotons TNT) are connected with entry of comet nuclei, asteroids and large meteoroids into the Earth's atmosphere with cosmic velocities, i.e., more than 10-20 km/s.
