Ceria-zirconia catalysts modified with CuO are promising systems for low-temperature СO oxidation. In this work pine sawdust and organic surfactant (CTAB) were compared as templates to create mesoporous structure for CeZrO2 and CuO-CeZrO2 catalysts. In this paper it was shown that catalytic systems obtained using different templates have similar phase composition, but a different extent of crystallinity of ceria-zirconia oxide (it is higher for the CuO/CeZrO2 (CTAB) and lower for CuO/CeZrO2 (SD)). Moreover, it was shown that the catalysts contain separate phase of CuO with the traces of Cu2O. Modification of CeZrO2 with Cu oxide leads to the significant decrease of the temperature of CO oxidation, from 250 to 100°C and less. Therefore the sawdust which is the waste in timber industry could be effectively used as the template for active ceria-zirconia catalysts instead of organic templates.
