The History Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Botanic Garden of M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University present an education project focused on teaching students (8-15 years) to explore the world around them from a scientific perspective, using both modern information technologies and 17th century watercolour drawings by the Dutch artist and researcher Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717). The drawings were brought to Russia by Peter the Great as a teaching aid for students of the Academy of Arts and are currently held in the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. They can now be viewed online, making them widely available for educational purposes.
