During the last decade, empirical studies of the author conducted at the Faculty of Psychology, Lomonosov University in Moscow, were successfully used applied with qualitative methods in combination with the concept of Fundamental Existential Motivations (FM) according to A. Laengle. An overview the results of some of these researches will be given, focusing the following points: 1) What actually express people when they suffer from blocked will, greed, aggression, shyness, and so on. Experience shows that the use of the concept of 4 FM allowed differentiate more precisely the essence of such phenomena as blockaded will (K. Yemeljantsev, 2014), shyness (E. Pisareva, 2006), aggression (I. Klyachko, 2008), greed (T.Osipova, 2010), etc. More detailed description of a phenomena with the help of the 4 FM allows us to an exact understanding of the contents in each of these cases. 2) What experience Russian men when they say they “love life”? Diagnostic testing of the 4 FM with the TEM (Test of Existential Motivations – A. Laengle, P. Eckhart) has made possible to identify the specific attitudes towards life (2nd FM) in Russian men (Y. Koryakina), and also to compare the phenomenological content behind the concept of vitality ( D .Stern) and experience the value of life (A.Odintsova,2014). Applying the FM-concept has created a new kind of empirical qualitative research in which descriptive methods of Husserl's phenomenology, complemented with Heidegger’s interpretive approach.
