This report tackles the problem of the European Union’s recovery from the deepest financial and economic crisis. It gives a brief characteristic of the five priorities identified in “The Annual Growth Survey” and focuses on the growth-friendly fiscal consolidation strategy. The latter has some negative effects on growth in the short term, but, accompanied by government sector reforms, it could prevent adverse debt effects in the middle term. A detailed statistical analysis is provided in conclusion.
