Using new methods of MRI visualization developed at the Physics Department and the Research Center of Magnetic Tomography & Spectroscopy (CMTS) MSU, studies have been conducted on laboratory small animals on the 7-Tesla MRI scanner Bruker BioSpec 70/30 URS. Their goal was to explore the possibilities of the target delivering pharmaceutical preparation to cancer or ischemic brain injury and learn non-invasive (no surgery, in vivo) to determine the degree of tissue lesion in living organisms, removing so-called metabolic NMR spectral portrait of tissue. The most interesting results were obtained in the joint application options, MRI and NMR spectroscopy. The latest one at the 7-Tesla scanner can be realized not only on protons but also on a number of heavy nuclei – 13C, 19F and 31P. Due to this it is possible to localize in tissues with a voxel size of about 2.5-3 mm and make NMR measurements both on protons and heavy nuclei. On location in the spectrum (on a chemical shift) and amplitude of spectral lines, which are responsible for the tissue characteristic metabolites, you can judge a degree of tissue ischemia, a type of tumor formations, in real time to measure in vivo local metabolic portraits and the temperature of internal organs. This approach of the combined use of MRI and NMR spectroscopy (so-called local NMR spectroscopy) is a non-invasive analogue of biopsy, metabolomics and inter-tissular thermometry. Fundamentally new results are especially important for the study of the kinetics of fluorocarbon drugs in the animal body in regime of the local NMR spectroscopy simultaneously on 19F nuclei and protons. With the introduction of perfluorodekalin (or perfluoranum) in the circulatory system, a drug localization was detected first in the kidney, and, one day after injection, in the liver and spleen, which are buffer hemopoietic organs.
