We present a theoretical analysis of the “C6+ puzzle”. In particular, we discuss relativistic, second-Born, and distorted-wave effects on differential cross sections. It is shown that neither of them can explain the discrepancy between theory and experiment. We find, however, that a finite momentum resolution due to a velocity spread in a supersonic helium jet can be responsible for the observed disagreement.
