Synthesizing nanotubes with a certain set of physical characteristics is rather difficult, most often using additional techniques after synthesis. One of the methods that allows to modify the structure of already synthesized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) and change their physical properties is ion irradiation. Unlike mechanical and chemical effects, ion irradiation is carried out in a vacuum and does not leave side inclusions. So, when the CNT was irradiated, it was shown that a focused ion beam can cut the tubes, pin them together and change the structure of CNTs. The modification of the structure under the ionic action is expressed in successive action on the surface layers of nanotubes by the formation of defects in the near-surface layers of the sp2 carbon lattice. This work is aimed at modifying multiwalled carbon nanotubes by ion irradiation and studying the effect of this modification on the wettability of the CNT array.
