Extraction of minerals by the open mining, leads to a significant change of water quality in river basins. It is expressed in the deterioration of water quality, in increases of turbidity and in intensification of heavy metals and toxic substances washout into surface waters. Chemical pollution is one of the most dangerous manifestations of human activity, because pollutants carried in the form of suspended and bed sediment can accumulate in the river system and remain in it for a long time. In extra-ordinary situations, they can re-enter to the river waters and become bioavailable. That is why the aim of the present work is to study the modes of occurrence and transport of trace elements in water bodies in mining areas, as well as to explore processes and conditions of the exchange between their forms of transport.
