In recent years, there have been significant changes, both climatic and in the structure of agricultural land. The estimates of their hydrological role significantly vary among authors, mainly because of the short duration of the considered series of observations. Therefore, results of the long-term studies of spring water balance elements on plowlands should be analyzed with consideration for recent data. Results of observations performed at the experimental stations of the Federal scientific center of agroecology RAS – Novosil Station (gray forest soils, Greyzemic Phaeozems), Povolzhskaya Station (ordinary chernozems, Haplic Chernozems (Pachic)), and Volgograd Station (light chestnut soils, Eutric Cambisols (Pro-tocalcic)) from the late 1950s to 2016 were analyzed. The experimental data include two periods: before the 1981 and after the 1981 (conditional current period), which differ in climatic conditions (Barabanov 2017; Barabanov et al. 2018). Results of observations performed at the meteorological stations located near the water-balance stations (Ponyri, Sernovodsk, and Volgograd, respectively) during the same periods were used as supplementary information for analysis.
