Apprenticeship is the important part of the history of children and childhood in the Middle Ages. The process of learning, methods of teaching, pedagogical methods of medieval masters were not disclosed in the regulations focused on the formal aspects of apprenticeship: its terms, tuition fees, fees for corporations, etc. However, the abilities of different children and their achievements in craft were taken into account by their teachers and by corporate rules. On the basis of the Parisian regulations in the 13th century (the “Book of Crafts” of Etienne Boileau) the criteria that determined the course of apprenticeship were studied.
