In our laboratory, we study various molecular processes associated with aging at cellular, tissue, organ and the organism levels. We are particularly interested in translation regulation mechanisms and focus on those operating in mammalian cells, as little is known about the role of this major cellular process in aging and lifespan control. In a recent study, we apply ribosome profiling and transcriptome analysis to quantitatively and qualitatively characterize gene expression in organs of mice of different ages. Our results show a systematic decline in protein synthesis and dysregulation of translation machinery components consistent with proteostasis dysfunction during aging.
