“Nanozymes” are interpolyelectrolyte complexes of enzymes and oppositely charged block copolymers containing ionic and nonionic blocks (“block ionomers”). They are obtained by simple mixing of the components due to electrostatic complexation and can be additionally stabilized by covalent cross-links between block ionomer chains (“caging”) or block ionomer and biopolymer chains. Biodegradable nanozymes are designed using biodegradable block ionomers or cleavable cross-links (e.g., containing disulfide bond). Following incorporation into the nanozyme complexes and cross-linking enzymes remain catalytically active.
