Thermokarst lakes were widespread on the Arctic shelf and coastal lowlands of East Arctic in Holocene. Сryolithological structure of thermokarst depressions changed after they flooded by the sea. Investigation of these transformations makes it possible to predict the distribution and condition of permafrost on the shelf. When thermokarst depressions were flooded, they have become thermokarst lagoons. Currently, such objects are known in the southeastern part of the Laptev Sea, on the Bykovsky peninsula. Based on the data obtained for the Bykovsky Peninsula thermokarst lagoons, the stages of their evolution were identified and the basic cryolithological characteristics of these objects were determined.
