In this study we focus on the tsunami generation problem taking into account water compressibility. Underlying half-space elasticity plays a significant role in dynamics of water layer in tsunami source in spite of essential difference in elastic properties of water and bottom. In order to describe coupling behaviour of compressible water layer and elastic bottom 2D numerical model was developed. Results of numerical modelling are used for interpretation of particular features of bottom pressure variations registered by JAMSTEC during the Tokachi-Oki 2003 earthquake.
