Solar cosmic ray C, O and Fe ion charge states in 51 events of solar cycle 23 are determined. An original method based on a modified form of the energy spectra of particles, consisting of two power law spectra separated by a knee was used. The experimental data of satellites GOES (protons) and instruments SIS and ULEIS from ACE satellite (ions He, C, O and Fe) were used. Average charge states of carbon ions (5.92 ± 0.07, half-width of the distribution due to the inaccuracy of the experimental data δ = 0.52), oxygen (6.45 ± 0.07; δ = 0.64) and iron (15.0 ± 0.2; δ = 2.0) were stated. No significant difference between mean charge states of particles were found in case of quiet different relative composition of the of Fe / C fluxes of events.
