Wormlike surfactant micelles (WLMs) are widely used as drag-reducing agents in transporting of liquids in tubes. Self-assembly of WLMs (unlike polymers) makes it possible for them not to be destroyed in rapid streams. However, high concentration of WLMs provides unfavorable increase of the viscosity of the liquids. Possible solution to this problem involves the usage of short WLMs armored with injected polymer (hybrid WLMs). Preparation and understanding of the properties of such hybrid materials remains a challenge. Several methods of preparation of hybrid WLMs, containing polymer, are presented in literature. In this works special attention is paid to the ranges of concentrations of the surfactant and polymer at which homogeneous solutions of hybrid micelles are observed. Present contribution is aimed at the study of the phase miscibility and inner structure of the new type of hybrid WLMs of surfactant potassium oleate with injected polymer poly(4-vinylpiridine) (P4VP) in the presence of inorganic salt KCl. To study the range of phase miscibility, phase diagrams surfactant/polymer and polymer/salt of the produced aqueous solutions of hybrid WLMs were plotted. In order to investigate the inner structure of the hybrid WLMs nuclear magnetic resonance small-angle neutron scattering, cryo-translational electron microscopy and scattering of visible light were used. Viscoelastic properties of the solutions of hybrid micelles were studied using rheology.
