Process of red blood cells (RBCs) aggregation highly influences viscosity of blood in vessels and impacts human health in common [1,2]. Aggregation properties of blood can alter due many various factors: the components of blood plasma, temperature of blood, the presence of a disease and others [2,3]. In this research the influence of temperature of RBCs in dextran solutions was investigated. Dextran solutions are widely used both in clinical practice to control viscosity of blood and in laboratory application as a medium in which RBCs aggregates can be studied [2]. The dependence of the aggregation properties of RBCs on temperature in dextran solutions has not been studied in details yet. The aim of this work is to estimate in vitro influence of temperature on the RBCs aggregation properties in dextran solutions. The laser aggregometry technique based on diffuse light scattering from blood sample was used to estimate aggregation properties of RBCs in dextran solutions at different temperatures [4]. For this reason we estimated hydrodynamic strength of the RBCs aggregates, characteristic time of aggregates formation and aggregation index. Dextran macromolecules with different molecular weights (70, 150, 500 kDa) have used in this work and was resuspended in PBS at various concentrations (10-100 mg/ml). The results show a significant dependence of the aggregation parameters on the temperature changes. In particular the well-known bell shape dependence of RBCs aggregation parameters on dextran concentration differs under different temperatures. For example, concentration of dextran 150kDa under turning-point of bell shape decreases with increasing of temperature. These observations mean that there is non-linear and synergistic effect of dextran concentration and temperature on RBCs aggregation properties.
