We will present a model describing the atmospheric ionization also during magnetic substorms. Our model uses modified APEX coordinates (Richmond, 1994) in combination with magnetic local time as well as magnetic longitudes. Model version is based on statistical mean values from POES and METOP in addition to realtime data. From the statistical analysis a spatial pattern of the particle precipitation is derived. Using the recent particle spectrum and GEANT4, a toolkit for the interaction of energetic particles and matter, the resulting atmospheric ionization is calculated. To identify substorm onsets the SML index is derived. Thus, we distinguish between isolated substorm, non- isolated and no-substorm periods. Other features are: The Polar Cap, which is empirically identified and includes magnetic local time and Kp-index dependence. The drift loss cone, that is connected to the South Atlantic Anomaly and treated separately in the model. The available time period is 2001—2018. Model setup and first results are presented.
