Water supply, water conservation and adaptation to regional and global climate change are important factors on the path to water, food and environmental security. The article discusses the following aspects of water-related environmental problems of the Republic of Kazakhstan and their possible solutions through international cooperation: 1) Identification of the dynamics of coastal processes in the landscapes of the North-East Caspian and North Aral Sea regions due to sea levels fluctuations, as a result of global climate changes and the development of oil and hydrocarbon production; 2) Geoecological zoning of the North-East Caspian coastal area with altitudinal landscape differentiation on the basis of the author’s methodology; 3) Use of GIS and remote sensing methods for identifying geoecological processes. Based on calculations of normalized difference indexes of soil (NDSI), water (NDWI) and vegetation (NDVI), the results of the North-East Caspian and Ile-Balkhash regions ranking will be demonstrated in the order of the degree of coastal landscapes sensitivity to sea levels fluctuations. Also the “risk zones” for economic activities were identified; 4) Suggestions of international cooperation in water security, transboundary problems solving, research and mapping of coastal processes to optimize environmental management and monitoring of geoecological processes.
