It is extremely important to study sea-level fluctuations of the Caspian Sea because they affect all the economic activity conducted on the coast and the ecology of coastal territories. Sea-level fluctuations observed in the XX and early XXI centuries have led to a range of negative consequences that need to be avoided in the future. In this regard, for competent and long-term economic management in the region it is necessary to understand the possible limits of these fluctuations and to be aware of the coastal response to sea-level changes. To estimate the scale of the problem, some of the papers written by scientists and experts on the Caspian region have been reviewed. Their studies show that late-Quaternary level fluctuations are mainly associated with climate change. The amplitude of Caspian oscillations is determined. A “hazardous area” (from -30 to -25 m) is also highlighted, which is of crucial importance in resolving issues related to forecast goals. All in all, the results of these studies help to gain a better understanding of the problem and greatly contribute to a greater awareness of the importance of the further research in this area. The results of this research will in turn make it possible to safely manage economic activity on the Caspian coast.
