Using the highly-specifc immunohistochemical method with anti-insulin antibodies, we succeeded to shown that while STZ causes a decrease in the β-cells number and a disturbances of their morphological structure, GK-2 eliminates these changes. Strong correlation between the morphometry indicators and the glucose blood level was revealed. Non-treated diabetic animals demonstrated the lack of pronounced decrease in glucose blood level caused by insulin (0.4 IU/kg), while GK-2 prophylactic course restored the response to insulin, thus demonstrating the attenuation of insulin resistance.
