The article is concerned with the method of reciprocal teaching of a foreign language by two native speakers of different languages via ICT. This innovative method of “teletandem” involves direct contact and interaction of cultures and is characterized by the autonomy and studentcentredness of learning. The specific features of the method and its advantages over the traditional ones are discussed as well as its possible place in the system of linguistic education. An experimental project of teletandem learning of the English and Russian languages at the MSU Faculty of Foreign Languages and Area Studies, in cooperation with an American university, its structure, goals, content and specifics are described. Feedback from students is cited as a basis for the evaluation of the project successfulness.
