The presentation will focus on approaches to assessing the greenness and sustainability of both chemical enterprises in general and individual processes. The production assessment will be presented based on the KPI of the Responsible Care® program. It should be noted that the approach given in the presentation was introduced in 2019 for the European Responsible Care Award and received a “Special Commendation” by the jury members. Such indicators assess the greenness and sustainability of enterprises as: - minimal impact on the environment (water, air, and soil); - resource and energy consumption; - minimization of greenhouse gas emissions. Another example that will be seen in the presentation is a comprehensive assessment of the process for compliance with the principles of green chemistry. The approach will be demonstrated using the example of the hydrolysis of biological raw materials. The main thing in the presented approach is the ability to evaluate and choose the best process (green and sustainable), taking into account the observance of several principles of green chemistry at once. In particular, in the example presented, the choice was made, taking into account the following principles of green chemistry: hazard of reagents, energy consumption, and waste generation. In conclusion, an approach will be presented that allows for a comprehensive assessment of the chemical load for a particular area, taking into account the life cycle of substances and their entry into the environment from several source
