The modification of alumina by ZrO2 and Н8[Si(W2O7)6] ⋅ 6Н2О (HPA) was used to change the metal-support interaction. Catalytic activity was tested in gas-phase hydrodechlorination of chlorobenzene. The influence of modification with HPA on the catalytic activity depends on the type of alumina. In the case of Ni/Al2O3_i an increase in catalytic activity of modified sample was observed: already at 150°C the conversion of chlorobenzene predominantly to benzene reached 96%, with almost no deactivation. On the contrary, modification of Al2O3_c caused a decrease in catalytic efficiency most likely because of a stronger chemisorption of chlorobenzene on the LAC of the modified substrate, as shown by DRIFT spectroscopy. Additionally, WOx formed during HPA decomposition can participate in active sites formation. In the series of ZrO2 modified samples, Ni/ZrO2/Al2O3 catalyst prepared by nickel deposition form colloid dispersion was the most effective in at low reaction temperature range (100 – 300°C).
