The purpose of this research is to define the approach for regulation of economic and recreational activities within the mountainous landscapes on the example of the Karasu river valley, located in the Northern macroslope of the Central Caucasus and the boundaries of the Kabardino-Balkarian State High-Mountain Reserve. The main types of human activities within the boundaries of the study area are the use of the territory as rangeland and pasture land, recreational activity and tourism. The features of the landscape structure of the Karasu river valley and the types of human activities that have a negative impact on natural landscapes are identified. The impact of the main types of human activities on the advancement of extreme and dangerous exogenous processes was assessed. Management of human activities in the area of landscapes surrounding the specially protected natural area is advisable to organize on the principle of «protection in use». In areas of nivalglacial and alpine landscapes, especially rare subalpine landscapes, anthropogenic impact should be as limited as possible. Special attention should be paid to measures to preserve woody plant communities that prevents the advancement of extreme and dangerous negative processes.
