During investigation of phase equilibria in the Ce-Pd-Al ternary system, a new compound CePd3Al5 was found. The new compound crystallizes in space group Cmcm, Pearson code oS36, Z = 4, with the lattice parameters: a = 4.2004(9) Å, b = 20.757(3) Å, c = 7.2350(11) Å. The cell dimensions of CePd3Al5 are very close to those of CePt3Al5 [3] (a = 20.651(4) Å, b = 4.1381(8) Å, c = 7.2842(15) Å), however the space group of the latter phase is different (Pnma). Electrical transport, magnetic and heat capacity studies on CePd3Al5 revealed metallic behavior and fairly localized magnetism due to trivalent Ce ions. The compound orders antiferromagnetically at 2 K, and exhibits Kondo effect in the paramagnetic state.
