In this time many efforts have attempted to design and synthesize the antibody-like recognition element for replacing antibodies. As recognition elements could be used many biological compounds, including: bacteria, receptors, proteins, enzymes, peptides, oligonucleotides (aptamers), and etc. Molecular imprinting polymers is one of the promising compound to be applied for analytical purposes and have nick-name – “synthetic antibodies”. The molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) exhibit high selectivity, physiochemical stability and applicability in any chemical media, and have been applied in separation processes and chemical sensors. MIPs could be synthesized by co-polymerization of functional and cross-linking monomers in the presence of a molecular analyte. After removal of the analytes and chemicals from solid-polymer by washing, the MIP with binding sites are obtained that allow binding of the analyte with some affinity and specificity. MIP membrane could be directly synthesized on the well surface of polysterene microtitration plate in aqueous environment as used for direct competitive biomimetic enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (BELISA). The examples for analytical applications of MIPs will be presented and discussed.
