Ibn al-Raqīq al-Qayrawānī’s “The pivot of joy on description of wine” (Quṭb ql-surūr) is supposed to be one of the latest and fullest treatises on Bachic literature. It includes chapters wholly dedicated to the finest examples of Wine Poetry (khamriyyāt) as well as chapters containing invaluable material reconstructing contemporary etiquette of carousal or those discussing the prohibited beverages and the opinions of the philosophers on the topic. This paper will focus on the way the theme of the gains and harms of wine (manāfi‘ al-ashriba wa maḍārruha) is dealt with in the terms of its structure throughout the treatise, the main thoughts that are stressed in this regard and the way the main participants of the banquette (mulūk/ nudāmā/ saqā) are involved
