One of the main approaches to CO2 utilization is its catalytic reduction into highly valuable products. The hydrogenation of CO2 on different iron containing catalysts produces such valuable compounds as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. By varying the composition of the catalyst and the conditions of CO2 hydrogenation, the composition of the products changes.The reaction produces a mixture of saturated and unsaturated normal and isostructured hydrocarbons, among which n-alkanes dominate. It is established that Fe-containing catalysts facilitate the formation of C1-C12 hydrocarbons. Heavier hydrocarbons are produced at higher temperature. It is unambiguously established that the active phase of the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO2 and H2 is Hegg carbide χ-Fe5C2.
