Premixed flame propagation in a narrow gap between closely spaced parallel plates is of interest from fundamental point of view because many interesting features exhibited, including the instability development, formation of cellular structure, growth and dynamic interaction of cells. Results of recent experimental and numerical studies are presented, demonstrating the propagation of stoichiometric propane flames following spark ignition. Video recordings and long-exposure photo images are shown where the time histories of cells are revealed including the inception of instability, cell growth, flame front wrinkling. Statistical characteristics of the cells obtained experimentally are presented. Results of three-dimensional numerical simulation of methane flames in narrow gaps performed with detailed kinetic schemes are also discussed.
