Hyperostosis frontalis interna (hereinafter referred to as HFI), being one of frequently recorded signs of the standard paleopathological program, may be used when assessing tolerance for stress by an ancient group under conditions of traditional way of life, habitat changing, food resources changing or their low availability. HFI is a shapeless enlargement of a frontal bone internal surface. In accordance with the clinical evidence, a number of abnormal conditions, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, virilism, hairiness, acromegalia, obesity and psychoneurotic symptoms often accompany HFI. HFI is of pluricausal nature and its evidence depends on a person's sex, age, hormonal state and level of stresses on population. The evidence is registered in female more often than in male in the current populations. The difference in evidence frequency and intensity is likely to represent different receptiveness of causative factors by both sexes. It is not unlikely that the process is caused by hormone imbalance in older female, which is caused by estrogens production level decrease in gonads. The evidence is caused when accompanied by the lack of testosterone production in male. The anthropologic, archeologic and physiologic data, which were obtained when examining the collection of skulls of Obdora Khanty dated XVIII-XIX cent., from the SRI funds and Anthropology Museum of MSU, were analyzed in this thesis. The total number of skulls examined was 291. The sex and age were determined in accordance with the standard methods. HFI presence and intensity was determined based on the anatomic criteria in accordance with the scheme, suggested by Hershkovitz et al. Based on the case of Khanty historical selection, the absence of any serious disorders, related to the hormonal dysfunction cases increase, are recorded, which points to Khanty population's high tole-rance for stress and adaptiveness for living in Arctic Regions harsh conditions.
