(63.1). Weightlessness effects on the sensorimotor system during space flight (SF) is connected tightly to alterations of vestibular functions, the support deprivation, and a significant change in the proprioceptive information pattern, which affects negatively the ability to control a locomotor acts, like walking, vertical posture standing, and hand-precision movements, etc. (Grigoriev A.I. et al. 2004). 22 cosmonauts aged 45,7±4,7 years old who flew long-duration missions onboard the Russian segment of the International Space Station (mission duration from 115 to 340 days) took part in the study. Two sessions of the experiment were performed before the space flight and two sessions – on the 7-8th and 10-12th day after landing. Preflight sessions were conducted 30 and 60 days before the expedition. In each experimental session, the cosmonaut himself chose a walking speed comfortable for him (a speed of 3 km/h was recommended by the researchers). In the passive mode (PM), the treadmill canvas is moved by the force of the cosmonaut’s legs, and in the active mode (AM) - by the electric drive. Walking in PM may be comparable to that performed on an incline (Smoliga J.M. et al., 2015). The aim of the study was to obtain and compare quantitative data of alterations in the biomechanical and electromyographic characteristics of walking after long-term SF in active and passive modes of treadmill. The results of the study demonstrate the features of PM: more close contact of the foot with the surface of the treadmill canvas and, as a result, an increase of the level of support afferentation. This, in turn, leads to the most marked electromyography (EMG) activity of the muscles in PM, since the support afferentation is a trigger of tonic muscle activity (Kozlovskaya I. B. et al., 2007). For example, before the space flight the EMG activity of the soleus muscle when walking in PM was 5.45±1.14% higher than in AM. It is also noteworthy that on the 7-8th day after SF this indicator in AM was lower by 9.61±4.11% than before SF, but in the PM - only by 3.98±1,63%. The study is supported by the Russian Academy of Sciences (63.1).
