The novel derivatives of 1,10-phenanthroline 1-4, which contain the moieties of 15-crown-5-, dithia-18-crown-6-esters, azadithia-15-crown-5- and aza-18-crown-6-ethers were synthesized. The complex formation of derivatives of 2-methyl-9-styrylphenanthroline 1-4 with different types of metal cations (Zn2+ ,Ca2+, Ba2+, Hg2+, Pb2+) in MeCN was studied by absortion and emission spectroscopy. Thus, it was found that phenanthroline moiety binds with Zn2+ and form complexes with stoichiometry LZn2 due to coordination via phenanthroline moiety that leading to bathochromic shift of long wavelength ahsortion hand. On the contrary the binding metal cations with the crown ether moieties results in hypsochromic shift of long wavelength absortion band.
