We apply methods of quantum optics to a system of a single atom in two- and three-level configuration plus a plasmonic nanoparticle that is illuminated by the incident laser field. Specifically, we study the resonance fluorescence of an atom near the metallic nanoparticle of both spherical and spheroidal shapes. Modification of photon-number statistics of a two-level atom driven near resonance by a laser beam of finite bandwidth is also studied in detail.
