The strata with large clinoform structures attract the attention of the petroleum geologists after the discovery of unique oil and gas fields in the West Siberia basin (Russia). This paper focuses on clinoforms of the Maikop Formation of late Oligocene-early Miocene age, which have a proven oil and gas potential. However, the criteria for predicting new prospecting objects of the Maikop Formation are based mainly on analogies with the Lower Cretaceous clinoforms of the West Siberia basin, despite the different age, provenance areas, and different geodynamic conditions of their formation. As part of the research, we tried to develop criteria for exploration clastic reservoirs based on an analysis of the geometry of clinoforms.
