Global analysis of the iron abundances on the lunar surface was made using the Lunar Prospector Gamma-Ray Spectrometer and Neutron Spectrometer data. We used data derived relative iron abundances from the low altitude with high spatial resolution (~ 45 km2 per pixel). The amount of iron varies between areas, but is always less than 20 – 22 wt. % FeO. The major mare soils FeO are between 16-17 wt %. New Chang’e-1 data exhibits a peak at about 15 wt %. One of the surprising findings from the global analysis was the presence of high iron abundance in a number of mare basalt regions. It was found several anomalies characterized by the very high iron abundances (more than 25 wt. % FeO). As examples we consider a few anomalies located on northwestern and southwestern from crater Kepler on Oceanus Procellarum.
