The ballet "The Rite of Spring" to the music of Igor Stravinsky is one of the most recognizable Russian works and one of the most frequently reconstructed works of the twentieth century by foreign choreographers. The reputation of the "The Rite of Spring" is such that it has become regarded by many foreign choreographers as a kind of initiation rite. The aim of the study is to show, how the appeal to archaic forms can sound modern among foreign authors, opening up new culture horizons in understanding the origins of Slavic culture. The research is devoted to the analysis of the production of the German choreographer Pina Bausch, since she is the first foreign choreographer focused on the theme of Slavic paganism, and not the love line of the ballet. The emphasis of the study is on the fact that Pina Bausch successfully repeated the main idea laid down by Stravinsky and Nijinsky: theme pagan-symbol, the concept of sacrifice for life, described by the formula "live to die".
