This study covers the analysis of linguo-stylistic expressive means used by English-speaking and non-English-speaking scholars in the oral discourse presented at a scientific-practical conference. The main objectives of the study were 1) to perform a linguo-stylistic analysis of speeches with the aim of identifying similarities and differences in approaches to creating academic texts for an oral performance between English-speaking and non-English-speaking speakers; 2) based on the results obtained in the research, to single out stylistic features characteristic of texts of speeches created both by native and non-native speakers; 3) using the data obtained, to develop a micro-course for senior technical university students - masters and PhD students - to help them in preparing their speeches for scientific conferences. The data for linguistic analysis were taken from recordings of the annual scientific-practical conference, organized by the Department of Foreign Languages of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Speakers selected for the analysis came from Great Britain, the USA, Russia and China. Having integrated the oral scientific discourse micro-course into students’ regular course, it was possible to conduct a feedback survey with their assessment of its benefits and drawbacks.
