Using resources in supercomputers takes place in batch mode. SLURM (figure 1) is the most popular job management system. SLURM is the workload manager on about 60% of the TOP 500 supercomputers, includingTianhe-2, that until 2016, was the world's fastest computer. It uses EASY backfilling and includes the possibility to sort the waiting jobs according to various priorities (like by increasing age, size or share factors, etc.). The major drawback of backfilling is that the programs execution time must be known or otherwise estimation must be made. Empirical studies have repeatedly shown that user estimates are inaccurate, and that history-based system generated predictions may be significantly better.
