The dative vs. allative with give-verbs in Ossetic and East Caucasian does not convey the distinction between permanent vs temporary Recipient, not between transfer vs. non-transfer of possession, but the distinction between two components of the situation of giving. While give + dative conveys an idea of possession transfer, give + allative is essentially a motion verb. This may be interpreted in terms of semantic roles: a dative argument is a (true) Recipient, while an allative argument is a Goal.
