The potentials of contact angle measurements for the determination of interfacial energy of polymer films contacting with different media and the application of obtained values for the prediction of the efficiency of polymer application in material science were briefly summarized. The surface energy of amorphous polymer films (γSV), its dispersive (γdSV) and polar (γpSV) components, the «polymer-liquid» interfacial energy (γSL) were determined using contact angle measurements. The interrelation between the dispersive component of surface energy, polymer fractional free volume and gas permeability of continual polymer membranes were found. The correlations obtained were explained with positions of similarity of contact interactions between the solid spherical particles and centers of masses of polymer coils in polymer films. A new technique permitting to compare the polymer efficiency with respect to nano filtration of liquid mixtures through the continual polymer membrane was proposed.
