Photobiotechnology is the intensively developing field of biotechnology, which ensures the using of phototrophic organisms on industrial scale and provides the solving of many important agricultural, chemical, pharmaceutical, energetic and environmental problems. Cyanobacteria of Spirulina species, especially Spirulina platensis and Spirulina maxima are the wide-spread objects of biotechnology and cultivated in many countries. Their valuable biomass is the source of considerable quantity of proteins, polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamins and others biologically-active substances. The original scientific investigations of Spirulina’s biotechnological potential have been conducted for the last decade at bioengineering department of Moscow State University. The possibility of obtaining Spirulina biomass enriched with essential and semi-essential elements such as B, Se, Mo, Zn, Cu, V, Li, Co in organic forms was studied.
