Nowadays the concept of using biomaterials for bone tissue reconstruction has undergone significant changes. A promising trend is a regenerative approach with emphasis on the replacement of the biomaterial with the native growing bone. The material is assigned the role of a porous active medium (scaffold), necessary for the construction of newly-formed bone, and mainly acting as a guiding function. The regenerative approach requires from modern biomaterials, first of all, acceleration of the process of adhesion and replacement of the implant with new bone tissue and the osteostimulating action of the implant material, ruling out a high level of mechanical loads during rehabilitation. Regenerative treatment methods use tissue engineering constructs (TEC) to restore biological functions of the bone. The creation of TEC for the treatment of bone defects is of particular importance if the size of the defect exceeds the critical one and to restore the bone tissue of the body's capacity is not enough. The production of an implant for bone tissue reconstructive surgery from the optimal architecture (in the form of an elastic open-cell body) is inextricably linked with additive manufacturing techniques. This talk aims to touch approaches for the additive fabrication of personalised implants for bone tissue reconstruction and the significance of pore architectonics for its osteoconductivity. This issue has a distinct interdisciplinary character, being at the intersection of materials science, medicine and engineering.
